I built a 6" X 48" belt sander and needed to make my own sanding belts due to the lack of suppliers and cost.
The first is this 1″ x 42″ belt sander that can be used for a number of things, like sanding and shaping wood, metal or plastic. It can also be used to sharpen chisels, plane irons or anything else that has an edge. With a diamond grit belt, it can even sharpen carbide bits and saw blades a truly versatile machine.
First, peel the remaining factory tape off the belt splice. Cut a piece of cloth bias tape (wide single-fold type, available at fabric stores) about 2" longer than the width of the belt. Lay one end of the belt, grit-side down, on the bench; then apply cyanoacrylate glue to the end of the belt.
